Tosa Fighting Association

The following pages do not represent the opinion or philosophy of our organization. These pages only represent ideas belonging to the traditions and customs of the oriental culture from where the Japanese Tosa-Inu has evolved as a purebred dog. The purpose of our work is to inform you about all matters pertaining to the Tosa, good or bad, that are practiced all over the world ( organized dog fighting being one of them ).

With great effort and dedication we have traveled, documented and researched everything related with the breed without trying to hide or omit anything having to do with it's true history or the real reasons for which this breed was developed.

We are not by any means in agreement with the customs and inhumane acts of commercial exploitation utilizing innocent animals for the entertainment of a poorly informed public lacking on what constitutes the humane treatment, proper care and protection of animals. Unfortunately, nearly all websites on the Tosa-Inu do not present the real history of the Tosa and the reality many of these animals are bred to live and die in. These other sites only show sugar coated half truths thus irresponsibly setting aside the inhumane cruelty many animals are subjected to. Today you shall acquire the knowledge and bear witness to the reality based world of the Tosa-Inu breed, it's use and what you can possibly do to save this breed. Canine breed organizations should take the time to educate all of humanity about the proper and improper use of a particular breed in question being exploited for sick entertainment. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Here is an magnificent specimen of a gargantuan Tosa-Inu with his friend (picture by the dog's owner; (Kubalova Jindrina) in Switzerland, Europe. This animal of barely one year of age and goes by the name of "Shakuhachi Imperial Akige".

The Tosa Inu is noble, very tame, intelligent and family oriented. It is an animal that cannot be blamed and rejected because of man's poor choice in the use of this magnificent creature's physical resources in the fighting arena. The German Shepherd is the best known working Military Police dog. The army trains and uses these animals to subdue, bite, and terrorize prisoners of war. These animals are not at fault when performing these acts, for they only act out what their handler's wishes subject them to do.

We are displaying photos of matches which are part of the Tosa-Inu culture. These were taken in Kochi, Japan. We do not advocate any form of animal violence but it is part of the Tosa-Inu's culture in Japan and present them to complete our documentary.

In these photos, opponents sniff each other out. If either or both do not wish to fight, the judges disqualify the dogs and the match is cancelled. There are so many matches that the judges can afford to cancel numerous fights.

These pictures, taken by Mr. Perozo, were taken in September 2003 at the best tournament in Kochi, Japan. You can appreciate the mid-sized dogs participating in these match.

These are powerful animals that may require at least as four people to separate them. In these photos, the combatants are separated by an air hose or by the presence of newspaper that is lit with a flame and placed near their nostrils.

Here is Mr. Sassaki's kennel truck. It is used to transport the Tosas to the many tournament sites.
